LESZEK SZUSTER HONORARY CITIZEN OF THE TOWN OF OŚWIĘCIM
On 28 August, a ceremonial session of the Oświęcim Town Council was held at the Oświęcim Cultural Centre, during which Leszek Szuster – long-standing director of the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim, a community activist, local government official and a man who has for years been committed to fostering dialogue and preserving the memory of Oświęcim’s history – was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Oświęcim.
In his speech, Leszek Szuster emphasised that receiving this honour was not only a great privilege for him, but also a commitment to continue working for the benefit of Oświęcim and its residents, and to foster mutual understanding.
Leszek Szuster is the first person in 12 years to be awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Oświęcim. His predecessor was Zofia Posmysz – a writer, former prisoner of Auschwitz concentration camp and a long-standing friend of the International Youth Meeting Centre.
We warmly congratulate him on this exceptional and fully deserved honour!
